Holiday Memory

In this weeks paragraph the students are to write about a special holiday memory.

DECEMBER HOLIDAYS

This week students will be researching December holidays. They are going to pick one holiday (not Christmas), and write a narrative paragraph on what their family might do to celebrate that holiday.

Thanksgiving Paragraph of the Week

This assignments will be two paragraphs, and students will be given two week to complete them. The assignment will be due on November 20.

Students are to imagine thy could invite anyone in the world to their house for Thanksgiving Dinner.

The 1st paragraph will describe the person they invited and why they chose that person.

The 2nd paragraph will describe their plan for dinner. what are they going to do to insure the person they have chosen will have a good time/

The words in this lesson are all singular or plural possessives.

Paragraph of the Week Due Nov. 6

Veteran's Day
Our school is holding a Veteran's Day Essay Contest. For our weekly assignment the students are to write an essay on our veterans.

Spelling Test November 6

This week we are learning about special phrases that describe groups of animals. Our normal spelling assignments will be modified.

Pumpkin Paragraph a Week

For this weeks paragraph you are to imagine you won a contest. The prize was a truckload of pumkins. They are delivered to you 5 days before Halloween, and just dumped onto your front yard. In your paragraph you will need to think about the following questions

Are you happy you won the contest?
Are you pleased with the prize?
What do you plan to do with all of those pumpkins?

Spelling This Week Test on 10-31

Diphthongs-Two vowels next to each other can represent a two-part sound that is neither long or short, as in shout, choice, and Clown.

READ-A-THON Reward

As a reward for doing so well during the Read-A-Thon today, Students can record an extra 30 minutes on their October Reading Log. Good Job Guys!

"APPLES" Paragraph Due Oct. 2

Johnny Appleseed, born John Chapman on September 26, 1775, has become an American folk hero about whom many tales and legends are told. He wandered among early American settlers, distributing and planting apple seeds from the Allegheny region in Pennsylvania to Central Ohio. He is the patron saint of U.S. orcharding, floriculture, and conservation. Johnny supposedly would not accept money for his gift of seeds. If anyone did pay him, he gave the money to the poor or bought religious books or goods to give to someone traveling westward.

For Language this week you will be writing about apples in honor of John Chapman's birthday. Think of an apple, probably the most common of all fruits. For what are they used? What do they look like? What do they taste like? Now, think of many and UNUSUAL uses for apples. Brainstorm a list or web on the back of this paper. Then wrte a paragraph in which you explain just how useful an apple REALLY is! Be creative but at the same time sound realistic!

Paragraph of the Week "FALL"

September 21st celebrates the first day of Fall. This weeks paragraph is to be on what reminds you of Fall. The colors, the smells, etc... Because it is a short week the Paragraph will be due on Monday, September 28, 2009. Remember to indent you first sentence, have a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a conclusion.

Week of September 21-24

It is the week of Parent Teacher Conferences. Friday there is no school. No spelling this week. We will have a paragraph that will be due on the following Monday instead of Friday.

Spelling September 14-18

This week in spelling we are learning about how to use the letter "Y" as a vowel.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are Sept. 22-Sept 25. A schedule was sent home today. Please let me know if you need to reschedule.

No Paragraph This Week

Due to the short week, there will be no paragraph assignment this coming week (Sept 8-11). I am a little sad. I really enjoyed their Autobiography paragraph. They are all super cute kids. We will have spelling words. I will post them on Tuesday.

This week students need to write something about themselves. Information sheets were sent home on Monday.

September Book Report

The book for the September book report is Newbery Medal Winner. The book must be approved by September 9th. A rubric and description was sent home. They are to make a 8 section comic strip of an event in the book.

Spelling For Aug 31-Sept 4

This week the students will be studying short vowel sounds. Students were given a pretest. Any words they missed they kept on their personal spelling list. Any words they got correct they were able to trade for a word on the spelling list. They should have brought home a list to study. They made the list themselves so please help me to check and make sure they spelled them correctly on their list. A few have snuck by me in the past on my double check.

First Full Week of School

This is the first full week of school. It's time to get down to work. This week will be full of assessments so I can get an idea of where the students needs are. The following is a list of what we will be working on this week.

• Reading- DRA Testing
• Math - We will be working with large numbers. Estimating, Writing, Reading.
• Spelling - Benchmark Assessments next week we will start on spelling lists.
• Writing - Working on finding ideas for writing
• Paragraph A Week - Parent letter was sent home please read it. It will tell you all you need to know about this assignment. The topic this week in Returning To School.
• Science - Matter
• Music - Students will be picking out their instruments for Strings on Thursday. We will also be having time to work with Mrs. Johnson for instruments.
• PE - PE will start on Thursday. We will have PE every Thursday morning so make sure you have appropriate shoes.
